The dot SE country-specific extension was started in 1986 and given to Sweden. During the first years after its introduction, the registration procedure was quite restrictive, so a very small number of domain names were booked. Persons were permitted to reserve no more than one domain under .PP.SE (“pp” stands for “private person”). Local presence was required, i.e. only Swedish persons, commercial entities and organizations could get a dot SE domain. In 2003, however, the registration process was loosened considerably and, accordingly, the number of dot SE domains has been rising each year.

Today, anyone can obtain a .SE name, which gives you the opportunity to reach the Swedish WWW community even if you do not have a local presence.
