Every single registered domain name has at least 2 Name Server records which show where it is hosted i.e. by using these records you point your Internet domain to the servers of a specific website hosting company. That way, you have both your site and your e-mails managed by the very same company. On the lower level of the Domain Name System (DNS), nevertheless, there are lots of other records, such as A and MX. The first one shows which server deals with the website for a given domain address and is always an IP address (123.123.123.123), while the second one reveals which server deals with the emails and is always an alphanumeric string (mx1.domain.com). For example, any time you enter a domain name in your web browser, your request is forwarded through the global DNS system to the company whose NS records the domain address uses and from there you will be directed to the servers of a different provider provided you have set an IP address of the latter as an A record for your domain name. Having different records for the site and the emails means that you may have your website and your e-mails with 2 different providers if you'd like.

Custom MX and A Records in Web Hosting

If you have a web hosting account through our company and you would like to move either your site or your emails to an alternative company, it will take you literally simply two mouse clicks to do it. Our Hepsia CP offers an easy-to-use DNS Records tool, where all your domains and subdomains will be listed alphabetically and you are going to be able to see and modify the A and/or MX records for any of them. If you wish to use a different email provider and they ask you to create more MX records than the default 2, it is not going to take more than a few mouse clicks either to add them. Also you can set different latency for these records and the lower the latency, the bigger the priority a given MX record will have. The propagation of each record that you change or create won't take more than a few hours and if required, you'll also be able to set the so-called Time-To-Live value, that shows how long a record will stay active after it's modified or deleted.

Custom MX and A Records in Semi-dedicated Servers

With the semi-dedicated servers which we offer, you will have full control over the records of all domain names and subdomains which you add in your hosting account. You can easily check what A and MX records each of them has from the DNS Records section of the Hepsia hosting Control Panel and editing any record requires simply a few clicks. If you want to switch your web or e-mail hosting provider, you can change the required record and direct your domain name to the other service provider for one of the services, as you still continue using the other one through us. You could also keep the main domain address here, while you edit the A record of only one of its subdomains. If you are changing the MX records and you need additional ones on top of the standard 2 that we have, you could create them with ease and set a different priority for every single one.
